The general perception is that a person loses interest in studies after marriage, but a city couple has just proved that wrong, having inspired each other to excel in academics. While Neetha Jayaram bagged four gold medals, her husband Dr Manjunath B obtained a doctoral degree in plant pathology during the convocation of the University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK.
Neetha told Bangalore Mirror that she got married when she was in the final year of BSc. Most of her friends had said that she would not be able concentrate on studies. However, she proved her critics wrong and her husband, in fact, encouraged her to study. And she inspired her husband, who was then working, to pursue doctoral studies. The dual inspiration worked well and both of them were the star attraction during the convocation.
Dr Manjunath said, “This is a rare event where a husband receives a doctoral degree and his wife bags gold medals. Though we were studying different subjects, we still inspired each other to study well. I am now happy that our family will be a PhD family because her father is also a professor and head of the department of agricultural marketing and business management, GKVK, while her mother is a professor at the department of biochemistry, KIMS.”
