The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday felicitated the former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on his appointment as party’s national vice-president.

Speaking on the occasion at the party office here, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar exuded confidence that the party would get clear majority in the ensuing Assembly elections.

He said while the BJP was in the process of selecting candidates after holding discussions with the district units, Congress leaders were camping in Delhi to finalise the candidates. This was the difference between the two parties, Mr. Shettar said.

Hailing Mr. Gowda’s new responsibility, the Chief Minister said the party would stand to gain immensely with his appointment as national vice-president. President of the BJP State unit Pralhad Joshi and the former president of the State unit K.S. Eshwarappa too felicitated Mr. Gowda. Mr. Gowda said he would strive hard to strengthen the party with the help of everyone. Ministers R. Ashok, C.T. Ravi, Govind Karjol, Umesh Katti and Basavaraj Bommai were among those present.
