Bangalore, September 29: The Revenue Department officials on Saturday took possession of three acres of land encroached upon by the promoters of Bagmane Tech Park. The land forms the periphery of Byrasandra lake.

Armed with a court order, officials of the department turned up at the site with the police in attendance.

The earth moving machinery, though, was not of much use as there were only a few temporary constructions in the area. Saturday’s action followed an order passed by the High Court in response to a public interest litigation petition filed by an NGO Environment Support Group.

Bangalore District Deputy Commissioner G.C. Prakash said, “The Bagmane Tech Park authorities have built offices in 10 guntas of encroached land, one Mr. Ramaiah has built around 50 houses as well as tennis courts on the land that is part of the lakebed. There’s also a hotel built on three guntas of land, and Adarsha Apartments has come up on 10 guntas of land,” he told The Hindu.

However, there’s a stay on demolishing these structures.
