Bangalore, September 22:  A veritable sea of humanity thronged the Bangalore Elevated Toll Road on Sunday morning to mark the eight edition of Wipro’s annual half marathon titled the “Spirit of Wipro Run”.

The day began with Wipro Chairman, Azim Premji, flagging off the event from the company’s campus in Electronic City. Thousands of enthusiastic Wipro employees and Bangaloreans took part in the run that culminated at Silk Board. Runners could choose between a 5-km, a 9-km or a 21-km run across the elevated expressway. Many of the participants went ahead to complete the 21-km half marathon, said a company spokesperson.

“Spirit of Wipro Run” is being organised across 97 cities in the world on the same day.

According to a press statement, T.K. Kurien, executive director and chief executive officer, Wipro, said timings for the marathon would be recorded in four cities across the world for the first time.

“The run will be held on at least five different terrains. In Bangalore, the elevated highway is the course for the half marathon – a first of its kind. The event would be held in a zoo in an African city, while in Japan, the run would be held by the ocean,” he said.
