Shimoga, September 9:  The former Chief Minister and president of Karnataka Janata Paksha B.S. Yeddyurappa and the former Deputy Chief Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader K.S. Eshwarappa held a meeting for about an hour at the residence of Chairperson of the Legislative Council D.H. Shankaramurthy here on Sunday.

This is the first meeting between the two after Mr. Yeddyurappa quit the BJP and joined the Karnataka Janata Paksha in December 2012. According to sources, the issue of forging an alliance between the BJP and the KJP in Shimoga City Municipal Council, where no political party enjoys majority, was discussed at the meeting.

Sunday’s meeting assumes political significance as it comes in the wake of the meeting the BJP leaders had with the Campaign Committee chairman Narendra Modi urging him to take steps to re-include Mr. Yeddyurappa in the party.

The two leaders went to Nehru Stadium later and enquired about the work related to a synthetic track there. Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Eshwarappa said, “Owing to various factors, both of us are in different political parties now. If Mr. Shankaramurthy had been active in politics, he would not have allowed these unsavoury developments to take place.”
