Gynaecologist gets 13 months in jail for Rs 1000 bribe

BANGALORE: A gynaecologist and obstetrician of government-run Ghousia Hospital, Dr Bharath Bhushan, has been convicted by the Lokayukta special court to undergo 13 months of rigorous imprisonment for taking a bribe of Rs 1000 from the husband of a patient, who had to undergo a surgery in 2009.

Lokayukta special court judge NK Sudhindra Rao pronounced the judgement and held the accused guilty under Section 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act. The doctor was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 400 or in default undergo further simple imprisonment for 20 days. On another count, the doctor has to undergo rigorous imprisonment for seven months and to pay a fine of Rs 300 for an offence punishable under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act.

The doctor had taken Rs 1000 from a resident of Shivajinagar Mohammed Asif for conducting a surgery on his wife Nafeez in 2009.
