bangalore-buildingBangalore, August 22:  Even as the owner of the multi-storey building in Someshwara Nagar, part of which caved in on Monday, continues to be on the run, the head of the Bandeswamy Math, whose under-construction marriage hall collapsed on August 4, causing the death of three persons, has managed to secure interim bail after absconding for days.

Police said Sachidananda Swamy of Bandeswamy Math went underground soon after the incident. The authorities attributed the mishap to weak centring without erection of pillars.

The Kengeri police have booked a culpable homicide case against the seer, engineers and building contractors.

The civil engineer, Jagannath Rao, who designed the marriage hall, continues to be on the run.

Earlier, the Kengeri police had arrested building contractors Murthy and Krishnamurthy who are still in judicial custody.

While the Labour Department and the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) are working out the modalities to provide monetary relief to the victims, the police are also investigating the role of the BBMP engineers concerned.
Chickpet incident

Meanwhile, the police have arrested Chandramma and Sarita Jain, owners of an old building in Chickpet, the roof of which collapsed on August 17 killing a construction labourer.

The police said the arrested co-owners of the building were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody. Twenty-year-old Noor Alam was killed while two other workers — Abdul Barik and Nasrulla — were injured when the roof of the building situated on R.T. Street was being demolished for renovation.

The workers, all natives of West Bengal, were sleeping in the building after the day’s work when the roof collapsed.

The Chickpet police said that the duo was booked for death due to negligence for failing to provide any safety measures to the workers. The police are also on the lookout for two contractors identified as Girish and Wasim.
