BANGALORE Aug 10: Following good rainfall across the state, the government has decided to celebrate this year’s Dasara on grand scale.
Chief minister Siddaramaiah held a high level committee meeting on Saturday and announced that Dasara celebrations will kickstart from October 5 and Jnanpith awadree Chandrashekara Kambar would inaugurate the event.
“The government has planned to make this year’s Dasara celebrations a memorable event. The celebrations will not be restricted to official level. It will people’s Darasa this time,” Siddaramaiah, who also hails from Mysore district, said.
Due to severe drought in the state for last couple years, Dasara was celebrated on low key. The CM also announced release of Rs 10 crore towards developmental works to be undertaken by district administration.
Siddaramaiah expressed unhappiness over slow progress of renovation works in the Mysore Palace. He said over Rs 25 crore was released for the purpose, however, only Rs 5 crore was spent.
Besdies regular features, Mysore DC C Shika urged the CM to write a letter to the Centre asking army, navy and airforce to participate along with their battle equipments during Dasara procession.
The CM also launched Dasara mascot for this year.
