Mysore/Mandya, August 3, 2013: Within minutes of film actor Ramya filing her papers for the bypolls from Mandya Parliamentary constituency as a Congress nominee, her foster father R T Narayan (77) suffered a massive heart attack and died on Saturday.
Narayan, who had accompanied Ramya when she filed the nomination paper, collapsed as the actor was talking to media outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office around 3.50 pm. He was rushed to Vikarm Hospital at about 4.15 pm.
According to Dr Sharief, the cardiologist at the hospital, Narayan did not respond to cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other emergency treatment. He was declared dead at 5.15 pm. According to family sources, Narayan, an industrialist, had been the foster father of Ramya since she was five years old. He had encouraged Ramya’s foray into politics.
Narayan was a pillar of the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association and worked for development of the sport for the last 14 years. He was the force behind former union minister S M Krishna becoming the president of KSLTA and also big international events like the Legends tour and ATP World Doubles coming to Bangalore. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah paid his last respects to Narayan.
The last rites of Narayan are expected to be performed on Sunday noon at Gokulam Chirashanthidhama. Some of the family members are expected to arrive from Ireland. Co-operation Minister H S Mahadevaprasad also visited the grieving family and paid his last respects.
