Bogus bills scam: Karnataka HC dismisses plea by BBMP engineers challening CID probe

BBMPBANGALORE: In an interesting development in relation to multi-crore bogus bill scam in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahangara Palike(BBMP), the Karnataka high court has rejected the petition filed by five engineers of the civic body challenging the decsion of the state government to enstrust the probe to Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Justice L Narayana swamy dismissed petitions filed by five BBMO engineers -BG Prakash Kumar, executive engineer, Malleshwaram division, K Keera Naik, Executive Engineer of Rajarajeshwari Nagar division, S Mallikarjuna Gowda and Ranganath, both assistant executive enginners and M. Prabhu, an assistant engineer. The judge also upheld the jurisdiction of the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF), which had originally registered the case in connection with the scam based on the preliminary inquiry by the Technical and Viginance Cell of the BBMP.

The petitioners had claimed that the Government had no power to refer the case to the CID, besides contesting the jurisdiction of the BMTF to register a case.
