A 50-year-old woman was crushed to death and her husband and daughter were severely injured after her son-in-law, in an alleged bid to avenge his humiliation by them, rammed a canter against their motorcycle on NICE Road on Wednesday.
While Adilakshmi was killed on the spot, her husband Kanthraju and daughter Manjula were rushed to Rajarajeshwari Hospital where they were being treated.
The trio was returning to their house in Hemmigepura after visiting their relatives when the incident occurred.
The Kengeri police have taken up a case of murder and attempt to murder and nabbed Chandrashekhar (25), driver of the goods vehicle.
Chandrashekhar married Manjula two years ago. She returned to her parents’ house about a year ago and filed a dowry harassment complaint with Hebbagodi police station against her husband. Based on the complaint, he was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
After coming out on bail, Chandrashekhar filed for divorce, for which elders counselled both families.
Kanthraju promised to send Manjula to Chandrashekhar’s house if he withdrew the divorce petition. He also assured him that he would withdraw the complaint made against Chandrashekar.
While Chandrashekhar withdrew the divorce petition, Kanthraju did not keep his word, the police said.
Allegedly enraged by this, Chandrashekhar follwed them and ran over their motorcycle, the police added.
