ASI and constable caught for taking bribe

BANGALORE: An assistant sub-inspector and a constable of Nandini Layout police station were caught while allegedly taking Rs 200 as bribe from a local resident on Thursday.

On Thursday, Ramachandra, a resident of Nandini Layout approached the Lokayukta police that the assistant sub-inspector G Gangarajaiah and constable Ravi were on patrolling duty on Tuesday night, when they stopped his two-wheeler and wanted to check the documents of the vehicle. The police personnel also checked Ramachandra’s pockets to find he had any money with him, the complaint alleged. Both took Ramachandra’s mobile phone and demanded Rs 500 from him to return it.

As he had no documents at that time, the assistant sub-inspector and constable wanted him to come to the police station to submit the documents and asked him to pay the fine for not carrying the relevant papers of the motorcycle. The police personnel asked him to pay up Rs 500. Ramachandra approached the Lokayukta police who registered a case.

A trap was laid and while the assistant sub-inspector and constable were accepting Rs 200 out of Rs 500 demanded at the police station, they were caught red-handed. Both the police personnel were arrested.
