‘Margarita’ breaks through at Vidhana Soudha

The tunnel boring machine ‘Margarita’, which had started boring from Central college site (Sir M Visvesvaraya station), as part of the Namma Metro underground corridor (East) achieved breakthrough at the Vidhana Soudha station on Wednesday after covering a distance of 729 mts.

Tunneling journey of Margarita had begun on June 8, 2012 and it has bored through hard rocks of 300 mega pascal along the stretch before coming out at Vidhana Soudha station at around 10 am.

BMRCL officials said the breakthrough was accurate and many officials including Dr Sudhir Krishna, Secretary, Union Ministry of Urban Development and Namma Metro MD N Sivasailam were present on the occasion.

Another TBM ‘Helen’ had achieved its breakthrough at the Vidhana Soudha station on December 26, 2012. Helen would start its operation from Vidhana Soudha towards Minsk Square (Cubbon Park station) within a week.
