City police commissioner, Raghavendra Auradkar, who had suspended two of his men in connection with the missing housemaid case, has now booked criminal cases against them in the matter.

“After a preliminary inquiry led by Nagaraj, ACP, JC Nagar, Vidyaranyapura station inspector D V Prasad and sub-inspector Sudarshan Singh were suspended. The City police have registered criminal cases against the two men now,” Sandeep Patil, DCP(North) told Deccan Herald.

He added that a case had been registered at Vidyaranyapura Police station under Section 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 342 (wrongful confinement of a person) and Section 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of Indian Penal Code.

A case has also been registered under the SC/ST Atrocities Act against the two officers.

Meanwhile, Auradkar visited Lakshmidevi, who had attempted suicide by setting herself afire on Sunday.

He spoke to the woman and obtained her version of events. Her statement was recorded by a tahsildar at the hospital on Monday evening. Although she is able to speak, her condition remains critical and chances of her survival are slim, according to sources in the hospital.
