BANGALORE: Members of Loksatta party on Saturday staged a protest against the recent bus fare revision by the KSRTC and BMTC.

Around 50 members of the party assembled near the transport terminal in Shanthinagar and raised slogans against the anti-passenger move by the transport corporations.

Party president Meenakshi Bharath said the rollback of Rs 1 for the first stage of travel in the BMTC, was just an eye wash as far hikes for many other stages remain intact. “The BMTC and KSRTC should withdraw the entire fare revision circular released in the month of June 2013. Problems being faced by the transport corporations should not be transferred to common man as there are other ways to tackle the same,” she added.

Other members of the party demanded the government to be fair to passengers by reducing the bus fare. “There should be a inquiry in to why the BMTC, which was making profits during the previous years, has slumped in to losses. In order to help transport corporations to fight the problems, the state government should reserve Rs 200 crore grants,” said a member of the party.

A related memorandum was also submitted to the Transport Commissioner on the occasion.
