Bangalore, March 20, 2013, DHNS:

The Silicon Valley of India, Bangalore, has emerged as the fourth largest e-commerce hub in the country, preceeded by Delhi, Mumbai and Jaipur, said a report released on Wednesday.

eBay India census 2012 was based on an analysis of all online buying and selling transactions by Indians on eBay between July 1, 2011 and December 31, 2012.

The survey revealed that online shopping is now mainstream and has become a nationwide phenomenon. India has over 4,306 e-commerce hubs, an increase of 30 per cent from last year.

Top five states with most transactions were Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Top-ranked brand in Bangalore was Samsung, followed by Apple and Sony; top exported items were natural diamonds, crafts yarn and movie DVDs.

eBay Head (Marketplace Experience) Santosh J Rao said, “Now e-commerce is not only a urban phenomenon, even rural India has started going online for shopping. That is because a lot of products they want are unavailable in local stores.”
