LAKEMYSORE, June 30;The district administration on Saturday reviewed the condition of water bodies in Mysore and the officials were directed to conduct a survey to ascertain the extent of encroachment.

Deputy Commissioner Rame Gowda convened a meeting of the Lake Development Authority and the members were instructed to ascertain the extent of encroachment, the nature of encroachment, whether commercial or residential, and the ownership and submit a report.

Directive

This is consequent to a directive by the government which has been asked to submit a report to the Karnataka High Court by July.

Prior to the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner faulted the Mysore Urban Development Authority for indirectly abetting encroachment by clearing residential layouts without ascertaining the nature of land in question.

The encroachment of feeder channels and drying up of lakes was stated to be one of the causes for encroachment, said sources.
