RAICHUR: Activists staged protest in Sindhanur on Monday seeking action against three persons, who allegedly branded a young dalit girl at Hanchinal village recently.

The agitating activists alleged that Mangamma, her son Naveen and her tenant Sampreet, a teacher by profession, together branded the dalit girl with a hot iron rod. They suspected that the girl had committed theft.

On Monday, activists of Pragatipara Sanghatanegala Okkoota, a conglomeration of different organisations, staged a demonstration outside the office of Assistant Commissioner in Sindhanur, around 100 kms from here.

“Nirmala, a minor girl from a dalit community, was working as a bonded labourer at Mangamma’s house for the last couple of years. Mangamma, her son Naveen and their tenant have charged the young girl with theft of money and assaulted her. They later branded the girl with a iron rod all over her body,” H N Badiger, state convenor of Jaathi Nirmoolana Chalavali, alleged.

They demanded to immediately arrest the culprits and give protection to girl’s family apart from paying compensation. A memorandum, addressed to Home Minister, was submitted to Assistant Commissioner’s office.

The victim’s parents Bhagyamma and Yallappa, leaders of various groups Mahadeva Dhumuthi, Gudadeshi Berigi, Nagaraj Pujar, Amaresh Girijali, Anand, Ganganna, Davalasab Doddamani, Suresh Kattimani, Suresh Balaganur and others were present.
