KOLAR: Organised under the Shashwatha Neeravari Horata Samithi, a forum of various outfits, set out on a padayatra to Bengaluru.
Activists of a number of organisations gathered at Gandhi Park and garlanded the Gandhi statue before beginning the walk up to Vidhana Soudha.
The protesters, comprising farmers, farm labourers, youths and students, waved flags of their respective organisations. They raised slogans in support of the demand for permanent irrigation projects to
the arid Central Karnataka region including Kolar and Chickballapur districts.
Many women carrying their children seen in the padayatra. Similar padayatras from several other parts of the State will converge in to a huge rally in Bengaluru on April 28, where they will lay seige to the Vidhana Soudha.
Opposition to the amendment to the Land Acquisition Act was another major objective of the jatha, Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha State unit vice-president G.C. Bayya Reddy said.
Horata Samithi leaders M.G. Prabhakar, Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy, JMS State president V. Geetha, SFI state president V. Ambarish, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike leader Jayadeva Prasanna, cooperative leader Holali Prakash were present.
