Bangalore: High jumper K.C. Chandana, injured by one of two falling trees on Wednesday when she was on her two-wheeler in Cubbon Park, is in a stable condition, say doctors at Hosmat hospital where she is being treated.

As she has suffered multiple fractures to her femur, nose and hip, she underwent surgeries on the left thigh bone and nasal bone on Thursday.

Hospital vice-president Ajit Benedict Royan said the 25-year-old will undergo another surgery for the fracture of her left hip bone on Saturday. “She underwent successful surgeries to repair the femur and nose. We inserted a rod into her thigh bone. The plastic surgeon repaired her nose from the inside so that there are no visible marks on the face.” The athlete may have to stay in the hospital for at least another week, Dr. Royan said. “She will be in the intensive care unit till Monday after which we will shift her to the ward, depending on her condition. Based on her progress, we will start physiotherapy and rehabilitation procedures.” On whether the athlete will be able to get back to her sporting activities, he said it all depended on how she responded to the treatment.
