Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday held that the Tamil Nadu Government has no jurisdiction to appoint the prosecutor to appear on behalf of the prosecution in the appeal filed by AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, who has questioned her conviction in the disproportionate assets case.
However, the court said that G. Bhavani Singh can continue to represent as Special Public Prosecutor in terms of the order passed by the Karnataka Government in 2013 appointing him as SPP but not as counsel for the prosecution in terms of authorisation given to him by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Chennai.
The court has dismissed the appeal filed by DMK leader K. Anbazhagan seeking a direction to appoint a new SPP to conduct appeals filed by Jayalalithaa and others.
