MIRJI

B.G Jyothi Prakash Mirji took charge as the City Police Commissioner from Raghavendra H. Auradkar here on Monday afternoon.

The two were all smiles as they addressed the media later.

Mr. Mirji said that he had taken over the post as per the government’s orders.

The High Court of Karnataka had directed the government to reinstate him as the City Police Commissioner after he challenged his transfer in the run-up to the Assembly election. He moved the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) stating that the Election Commission was empowered to only depute and not transfer an official.

Meanwhile, Mr. Auradkar said: “As per the orders of the Election Commission, I had taken charge as the Police Commissioner in April before the Assembly polls and carried out my responsibilities during my tenure. Similarly, I will now carry out my responsibility as Home Secretary as per the orders of the government.”
