Mandya: Elected representatives, government officials, members of various organisations and individuals paid rich tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on the occasion of his 58th death anniversary in the district on Saturday.
While the district administration and several Dalit organisations jointly observed Parinirvan Divas near the Deputy Commissioner’s office, taluk administrations organised similar programmes in all taluk headquarters in the district.
Deputy Commissioner M.N. Ajay Nagabhushan, Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, several members of Mandya zilla panchayat and Mandya taluk panchayat, officials of various departments, leaders of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) and other organisations garlanded the statue of Ambedkar near DC office.
Mr. Nagabhushan, who recollected Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions in drafting the Indian Constitution, has called upon the public to follow the ideals of the late leader.
Later, senior journalist Rajashekar Koti released ‘Ambedkar Caravan’ at another function organised here.
Taluk panchayat members paid tributes to Dr. Ambedkar at Malavalli, Maddur, Srirangapatna,
Pandavapura, K.R. Pet and Nagamangala taluks, sources said.
