Wedding_AFP_0_1_2Mysuru: In a cheating and dowry case which has been reported in KR Police station limits, a groom has run away, allegedly for not appreciating the complexion and the looks of the bride. Now, the bride has taken a decision, that even if the groom returns, she doesn’t want to get married to him.

23-year-old Naveen, a native of Malle village of Srirangpatna taluk, Mandya district, has been  accused  of breach of promise.

19-year-old Priya (name changed) the bride, is the daughter of a poor Agarbaththi salesman and a resident of KR Mohalla here.

The groom-to-be had reportedly already taken Rs 75,000 cash as dowry, a gold ring, a watch and the cost of  his wedding attire.

“Based on the complaint from the girl’s father, which was lodged on 29th November, we have formed a team of four and are in search of Naveen. His cellphone is switched off. We are investigating,” police said.

Speaking to media, Priya’s father, narrated, “Marriage broker Krishnappa came and gave a metal ring to my daughter and told her that if he she wore that she will soon get a good groom. Then he brought this proposal, and said that the groom was a driver, they would demand a dowry of Rs 75,000 and we should be giving him a brokerage of Rs 20,000.

“The engagement was on 15th November. Soon after the engagement his cell phone remained switched off continuously for three days. His mother convinced us that he might have gone to meet his sister, who is in Tamilnadu. Soon the wedding day approached but the whereabouts of the groom were still unknown”.

“We got panicky  and decided to lodge a complaint. But neither did he turn up nor could the police  trace him. I have taken loans for everything. We have now come to know that the groom had run away because he was not satisfied with  my daughter’s complexion and looks. Now even if the groom comes back, my daughter has decided not to marry him. And we too have decided not to go ahead with this wedding!” he concluded.

KR Police have registered a case of 420 and a case under Dowry Prohibition act and are investigating.
