Bengaluru: Doyens of South Indian cinema, including superstar Rajinikanth, mega star Chiranjeevi, Mammootty and Mrs. B Sarojadevi, will participate in the unveiling ceremony of the Dr.Rajkumar memorial on Saturday morning at 10.30 am at Kanteerava Studio.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Shalini Rajaneesh, Secretary, Department of Kannada and Culture, informed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will unveil the memorial and release a book on the occasion.
“As part of the event, the Karnataka Film Chamber is organising a cultural evening at the palace grounds at 6 pm. Around 25,000 invitations have been issued,” she said.
Earlier in the morning, Raghavendra Rajkumar, son of the late Dr Rajkumar, informed that the Raja Ratha (Raj Chariot) which started from Gajanoor, the birth place of Dr.Rajkumar, will reach his Sadashivanagar residence around 8.30 am. The chariot will reach the memorial at 10 am.
Raghavendra urged the fans to maintain law and order as lakhs of people were expected to throng the chariot. “In 2006, immediately after his death, violence broke out in the city. His body was hijacked. Keeping such incidents in mind, we want fans to maintain peace. Fans from across the world are arriving in the city to witness the event,” he said.
Additional Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar said that more than 1,000 policemen were deputed to maintain law and order. “Two platoons of city armed reserve have been deployed around the memorial,” he added.
“Forty metal detectors will be used. Four DCPs and over 45 police inspectors will be deputed for the security supervision,” he added.
