Bangalore, May 15: Leesha fears she will not be able to write supplementary exam

In addition to being in severe pain due to her injuries, blast survivor Leesha, now has another worry. Due to continuous surgeries, she might miss her supplementary exam for Mathematics to be held next month.

Leesha suffered injuries on her leg following the April 17 bomb blast outside the State BJP headquarters in Malleswaram.

She was rushed to K C General Hospital and then to M S Ramaiah Hospital after she developed acute respiratory distress syndrome.

“She has already undergone two surgeries and will undergo the third soon. She is in a lot of pain and many a times, it is unbearable,” said her father Duraiswamy.

Leesha and her friend Rakshita Sujay were walking near the BJP office when the bomb went off. Rakshita, who was discharged this week, has to undergo physiotherapy sessions.

“Leesha will undergo another surgery this week. She has got an external fixator and we have to add some wires on to it for ensuring that length of her limb is maintained,” said Dr Naresh Shetty, the director, M S Ramaiah Hospital.

She might get discharged next week, but she should be on regular visits to the hospital for follow-ups, he added.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Duraiswamy said life had changed for the worse for them.
“My wife and I spend everyday at the hospital with her. I am a daily wage worker. For me no work means no wage. I haven’t gone to work for nearly a month now,” he said.

He is glad that the government is bearing the cost of the treatment, but is worried about the future.

“The doctors say that after she is discharged, we will have to bring her to the hospital once a week for further medical care. We now spend almost Rs 500 – Rs 1,000 everyday for travelling and other expenses. And this is going to increase after she’s back home,” he said.
While Mathematics had always been a problem subject for Leesha, the failure and the injuries have downed her morale.

Failure has affected her

“She is a little depressed and keeps saying things like she wishes she had died in the blasts. She blames herself for the entire problem. And the failure has affected her a lot. If she can’t write the supplementary exam, I don’t know how she will react,” he said.
