Mandya: Members of the Raitha Morcha wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Mandya, staged a protest here on Tuesday against the move to collect donations from milk suppliers for setting up a mega dairy.
The Mandya Milk Union Ltd. (MANMUL) plans to set up a mega dairy near Gejjalagere, near Maddur.
The union has been deducting Rs. 1.5 a litre of milk from milk suppliers while clearing their bills.
The morcha members staged a demonstration near the Raitha Sabhangana here on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.
Criticising the milk union for what they said forcibly deducting money from suppliers’ bill, the morcha members raised slogans against the move.
They urged the union to seek grants from the State or the Union government for the proposed project.
Meanwhile, the farmers have urged the State government to announce Rs. 3,000 a tonne as procurement price for sugarcane for the 2014-15 crushing season.
