Yadgir: While applauding the Siddaramaiah led Congress government in the state for “performing very well by fulfilling most of the promises made in the election manifesto”, Leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge today made a scathing attack on the media and “some political leaders” for portraying the Congress government with “malafide” intentions.
Speaking at a function organized here today to unveil the statue of Kanakadasa, Mr Kharge who shared the dais with the Chief Minister, said after coming to power with great difficulty his party had been doing very well.
“But the media is not giving due publicity to us. Similar is the case with some leaders. They are looking at us with a jaundiced-eye.
This attitude has pained us. If there are some lapses, we will set them right. But if this attitude persists, it is going to do great harm to the State”, Mr Kharge warned.
In his forty minute long speech Mr Kharge quoted Urdu couplets and the saying of J.F. Kennedy to drive home the point that only a concerted effort would take the state forward.
Turning to the Modi government, Mr Kharge made stinging comments on it. “The six month old government has been very often accusing us of not doing anything during the last sixty years when we were in power.
“Was the Mars satellite, Vikramaditya Submarine and the rail line to Vaishnodevi which Mr Modi inaugurated, built in a matter of few days after the BJP came to power at the entre?
These leaders who are good at playing with words are trying to woodwink the people with their glib talk. Did we not know about keeping our premises clean? Gandhiji and Nehru had practiced cleanliness and taught us much before Mr Modi was born”, Mr Kharge remarked.
Referring to the cabinet expansion, Mr Kharge sarcastically asked whether Mr Modi has forgotten his words of “minimum government and maximum governance”.
