Manipal:  Various educational institutions coming under Manipal University celebrated the “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas” (National Unity Day) to mark the birth anniversary of the freedom fighter and first Deputy Prime Minister of the country Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31.

One of the highlights was a huge water colour painting of Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel, who is also known as the Iron Man of India for bringing all princely states in the Indian Union. The 15 feet by 15 feet painting was created by two artists Srinath Manipal and Ravi Hirebettu on the ground floor of the Library Building of Manipal University.

Mr. Manipal and Mr. Hirebettu, who are members of an independent group called Manipal Sand Heart Team, also work as artists at the Kasturba Medical College.

The painting was the cynosure of all eyes at the Library building. The students of Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences also formed a big human chain on the occasion. They also held placards in their hands carrying messages of Sardar Patel.
