BANGALORE, May 11: The corridors of the Vidhana Soudha, which have been deserted since the election process began, will be abuzz with activity with the formation of the new government next week. On Friday, as all the focus was on the KPCC office in the wake of the Congress meeting to elect its legislature party leader, the Vidhana Soudha hardly had any visitors.
‘Less tedious’
A senior government official told The Hindu that working had been “less tedious” for over one and a half month as elected representatives got busy with the elections. Though no major decisions were taken, officials had been clearing routine files and were busy with election-related transfers, he said.
Chandru’s wish
The lone political appointee present at the Vidhana Soudha on Friday was Mukhyamantri Chandru, Chairperson of Kannada Development Authority (KDA).
Mr. Chandru told The Hindu that though he had wanted Bharatiya Janata Party to come back power, people had chosen otherwise. He, however, said that he was happy that people gave a clear mandate without room for any post-poll ambiguities.
A few police personnel posted at the gates of the Vidhana Soudha admitted that their task had been less burdensome all these days. “We had very few visitors and we were a relaxed lot. With the new regime beginning its administration next week, we are expecting increased responsibility,” one of them said.
Changes
At the same time, workers were busy in refurbishing the Conference Hall on the third floor as well as chambers of ministers. Old furniture was being removed and new ones were being brought in.
