Byatarayanapura police arrested Vidyadhar, an unemployed youth, and Kavyashree, 21, daughter of a traffic police head constable, after she confessed to the crime during interrogation. Vidyadhar, a resident of Chandra Layout, is the son of former deputy mayor Lakshminarayana.

DCP (West) Labhu Ram said the duo has been suspects since the investigation began.

Head constable Krishnappa had lodged a complaint on October 7, saying gold jewels and other valuables worth Rs 3 lakh were stolen from his house when the family had gone out of town. “We had suspicion on Kavyashree as she was the only one present in the house when the theft occurred. Later, she revealed that Vidyadhar was the culprit and she had only helped him,” police said.
