Before leaving, Jayalalithaa thanks prison staff

19BG_PARAPPANA_AGR_2162237fBangalore,:  Ecstatic AIADMK cadre, who had gathered to get a glimpse of the party General Secretary and former chief minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa, celebrated on Saturday evening, as the convoy carrying their leader made its way out of the Central prison at Parappana Agrahara. Many had turned up as early as Friday.

The crowd showered flowers on her vehicle. The former chief minister did not disappoint them. Though she did not get down from her vehicle or address her supporters, she waved at the crowd enthusiastically.

Police had a tough time controlling the crowds.

Jayalalithaa was taken by road to HAL airport from where she flew to Chennai in a chartered flight. The convoy included Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Paneerselvam and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Thambidorai.

Earlier, the process of her release was completed before the special court in Bangalore and the order was dispatched to the prison through a special messenger. The court order reached the prison authorities at 2.45 p.m. Jayalalithaa was released on bail by 3.10 p.m.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons) P.M. Jayasimha said that a medical check-up was conducted on all the four convicts released on bail. They were found to be in good health. He added that Jayalalithaa had deposited a pair of ear rings and a watch when she entered prison. These were returned when she was released. He said Jayalalithaa expected no special treatment and that she thanked prison authorities for their co-operation during her 22-day stay before she left.
