16BG_ASSULT_2156783fMYSORE:  The City police have arrested a total of 19 persons in connection with the assault on IAS officer and Director General of Administrative Training Institute (ATI) Rashmi V. on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) A. N. Rajanna did not rule out more arrests in the case as the police was still identifying the accused persons based on the video recording of the assault that took place at the ATI premises on Lalitha Mahal Palace road.

“Some visuals are clear while some are blur. Our personnel are still verifying the visuals”, he said. Most of the arrested persons, who hail from Mysore and nearby areas, were former contract employees of the Institute.

The arrested persons had been charged with not only assault, but also unlawful assembly, illegal confinement and obstructing a Government official from discharging her duty.

It may be mentioned here that the assault took place after the body of the Institute’s Mess Manager Venkatesh, 53, who was found dead earlier in the day, had been brought back to the Institute after post-mortem.

SUSPENDED

Mr. Rajanna said the Sub Inspector of jurisdictional Nazarbad police station Narendra Babu had been suspected for dereliction of duty.

“It was his duty to ensure that the body was sent to his native village after the post-mortem. The trouble broke out only because the body was allowed to be brought back to the Institute”, he said.

A notice has also been served to Nazarbad Police Inspector K. C. Poovaiah, he added.
