Reiterating that the State will not part with even an inch of land to Maharashtra, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the power of demarcating boundary between two States lies with Parliament, and Maharashtra’s demand for inclusion of 814 villages is not “maintainable”.

At a press conference after a meeting with experts, including retired judges, writers, Opposition leaders and Kannada activists, here on Friday, Mr. Siddaramaiah declared that the State would file a review petition in the Supreme Court seeking that evidence of witnesses be recorded after disposing preliminary issues regarding border disputes.

He added that the State was keen on renaming Belgaum as ‘Belagavi’ and a formal announcement would be made on November 1.

On demands from several groups for banning Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti in the State, the Chief Minister said it would be “considered” after studying legal options.
