Thousands turn up to watch Jamboo Savari

Thousands of people turned up at Mysore Palace and the main thoroughfares of the city on Saturday as the famous Jamboo Savari procession began from the palace.

Apart from the caparisoned elephants, led by Arjuna carrying 750 kg golden howdah, a total of 77 cultural troupes and 45 tableaux participated in the procession.

About 15,000 people gathered in Mysore palace, besides the lakhs along the route of the procession. Tight police security was in place throughout the city.

According to City Police Commissioner M.A. Saleem, nearly six lakh people had gathered to watch the procession. A total of 8,000 police personnel, besides three unmanned aerial vehicles and one helicopter, were deployed to provide security.
