BANGALORE: Battered and rendered unconscious by her jilted lover who later committed suicide, a 24-year-old woman from Kamakshipalya died in Victoria Hospital on Monday.

Police suspect the woman, Ramya G, was a victim of honour killing. She was found injured in a mango grove near Anekal on April 22.Police said Ramya and her jilted lover, Muniraju, 28, belonged to different castes. “Ramya was an autorickshaw driver’s daughter. She was from a poor family, unlike Muniraju,” said a cop. Police suspect Muniraju was assisted by three brothers in the killing.

While Muniraju hanged himself from the ceiling of his Anekal home, his brothers are on the run.

“Muniraju’s family was against his efforts to woo the girl,” Anekal police said. Hospital sources said Ramya’s family has been reluctant to claim the body, following which the post-mortem has been delayed. Her vaginal swabs have been sent for forensic examination to verify if she was raped.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Muniraju had proposed to Ramya while she was working in his travel agency in Peenya. However, she rejected his proposal , knowing that he had multiple affairs in the past. Incurring a huge loss, Muniraju had to close down the agency, said police.

He employed her again when he opened a mobile shop near Kamakshipalya. On April 22, Muniraju took Ramya to a mango grove in Mattigatte, near Anekal. “Muniraju is believed to have proposed to her again, but in vain. He then smashed her head with a blunt object and strangled her with a veil. Ramya fell unconscious. Assuming her to be dead, Muniraju returned home, wrote a suicide note and hanged himself from the ceiling,” said a police source.

Youth found dead in gutter, cops suspect suicide

BANGALORE: A 24-year-old youth was found dead in a gutter near his house in Balaji Layout, Yelahanka, on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Santosh. Police said the body bore no external injuries but suspect that it is a case of suicide. There were signs of frothing and bleeding from the nose and mouth. “The body had turned bluish, indicating that it could be a case of poisoning,” the officer said.

Santosh, who belonged to Nandi, Chikkaballapur district, was a diploma holder in civil engineering. He was staying at his elder sister’s house in Balaji Layout since four years. For the past one year, he was employed with an architecture firm in R T Nagar, family sources said.

The family said Santosh had left home around 11.30am on Sunday, saying that he was going to cast his vote. When he did not return by late night, the family members panicked and searched for him all night. On Monday morning, they found his body in the gutter.

Police sources said Santosh was in love with a girl from the city. But his family was against the match. The family had fixed his marriage with another girl and the engagement was scheduled on May 27. Cops suspect that this may have been the reason that drove him to take the extreme step.

The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy was conducted at Dr BR Ambedkar Medical College Hospital.
