Census Report of rain losses to be submitted within a week.

Mangalore, September 4: Due to the rainfall in the district; 782kms of roads, 50 vents, a miniature dam, 20 government buildings, 5052 electric equipments are damaged which amounts to a loss of more than 58 crore’s said the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district Mr Ibrahim chairing a meeting to discuss about the development activities at his office, concerned to the natural calamities -2014 along with the district officials.

Mr A.B. Ibrahim said that, as of now, a minimal of Rs 10 crores is required for the repair of public properties and he has sent an requisition to the government to grant Rs 5crores immediately.

Due to the sea eruption, 3192 metres of coastal area is damaged. To check it, temporary barriers have to be erected for which he has sent a requisition to the government to grant a sum of Rs 6.97 lakhs towards the construction cost.

In the district, during 2013; from January to September 2nd, 3489.90 mm rain has been recorded, but this year2929.79mm rains has been recorded with percentage of 15.9mm reduction in rains this year’s, said  the joint director of agriculture Dr Kempegowda. Also he revealed that, there is a vision to grow 98345 metric tonnes of paddy during the monsoon this year.

The monsoon rains this year have spoiled 131 agricultural crops over 46.79acres of land in the district, overall a loss of 70.63lakhs has occurred and till now compensation of Rs 2.094 lakhs has been provided said the district’s deputy director of agriculture in the meeting.

For the losses occurred due to the rains,233 repair works has to be undertaken in the jurisdiction of various departments  and for this purpose estimation of about 705.23lakhs is needed. Till now Rs509.11 lakhs is remitted and 196.12 lakhs are pending said the additional District Commissioner Mr Sadashiva Prabhu.

He said, due to the rain 55 houses are damaged and Rs 20.58 lakhs compensation have been provided.207 houses have been completely damaged, 19.92 lakhs  compensation have been given; 807 houses are partially damaged and Rs 25.65 lakhs compensation has been given as the compensation. In total 1069 houses are damaged and a compensation of 66.15 lakhs has been distributed.

“Within a week, the census conducted on the losses due to rain has to be submitted”-ordered the District Commissioner; to all the Thasildhars and the heads of local offices. The project director of Municipal Administration Takthrav and others were present during the meeting.
