Mangalore, August 26: “Every Tuesday, doctors will treat patients with mental disorders for free- compulsorily in all district and taluk hospitals, primary health centres and community centres. Doctors will also provide essential medicines and government medical college psychiatrists will visit the taluk centre or primary health centres to treat patients with mental disorders as per the assignment given by their HOD”, said the state’s Health Minister U T Khadar.

Addressing the press meet at Circuit House on Monday August 25th, he said that doctors will be paid for this job and they will be given leave on that day.

Also he added that, “Making slight changes in treatment of rape victims under the Nirbhaya guidelines, the state government, giving importance to the treatment of rape victims has decided to reserve one bed in the district hospital ICU for the treatment of rape victims. All treatment will be provided there. It will be safe for the victim. The state government will write to the union government in this regard”.

“The government has planned to start a mental treatment center in district hospitals and later, in the second phase, it will emphasize on day care centers. Without treatment centers, day care centers will not function effectively. Earlier, it was started but due to lack of psychiatrists, they were stopped” added Khadar.

On commenting about the by-elections, he said that due to good governance provided by the Siddaramaiah government, people have opted for the Congress in two constituencies. “Even in Shimoga, we lost by a small margin”, he stated.
