2 Days Conference at Besant Evening College

Mangalore, August 22: Librarians should take the maximum benefit of Information Communication Technology and adapt themselves like “Smart Phones to provide latest information services to library users” said Prof. K Byrappa, the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University. He was inaugurating “Libraries and Librarianship in Transition: Challenges and Opportunities” (LIBTRANS-2014).  While sharing his experiences of librarians and libraries, he said that the managements and librarians have to work hand in hand to take the libraries and library services to greater heights.”. The conference is inaugurated today on 22ndand is closing on 23rd August 2014 at Besant Evening College in Mangalore.

The conference was inaugurated at 10 am on Friday 22nd by Pro K. Bairappa, Vice-Chancellor of the Mangalore University. Prof. Ramesh Babu emeritus professor at the Madras University delivered his guide line speech. Registrar of St Aloysius College, Dr. A.M Narahari was invited as a special guest. President of the National Women’s Education Kudpi Jagdish Shenoy presided over the occasion and Convener of the College, Narayana Shenoy all were seen on the dais.

The conference will be held for two days in which the country’s renouned librarians of Mysore University Dr. Ramesh, Dr. Srinivasa Raghavan of Tiruchina Palli, librarian of Goa University Dr. Gopakumar, Dr. Chandra from Mysore University, Dr. Suresh Jange and  Dr. Gaddagi Mara from library sector,  Dr Vijay Kumar form Kerala have submitted their  essay in this convocation.

Under 9 categories, essays were be submitted by the authors and debate will be carried on for two days.The book consisting of the 93 research essays was released at the inaugural ceremony. The retired member of the Association, Mrs. T. Indira, librarian of Canara First Grade College, 7 PhD holders in Library and Information Science and the I Rank holder in M.L.I.Sc. under Mangalore University were honoured and felicitated.

On 23.08.2014, the closing meet of the Conference will be held at 4 pm .During this ceremony Pro Lakshman Nandagiri and Dr. M.K. Bhandi , librarian of Mangalore University will deliver their presiding talk. Manel Annappa Naik will hold the chairmanship of the program.

More than 400 librarians and educationalists participated in this conference. In a press release, the Principal of the college Dr. Carmelita Goviyus, Dr. Vasappa Gowda the coordinator, Dr. Sujatha president of Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu Library Associations, Loknath Poojary the Secretary, Dr. Satish Kumar Shetty lecturer of the college, Pro. Ganapati Bhat B were present.

The programme started with the Invocation song by Miss. Pooja and group. Prof. Laxminarayana Bhat gave the vote of thanks. Miss. Roshal Coelho compered the programme
