On the occasion of the 68th Independence day a 36ft long mammoth National Tricolor was unfurled 450ft above the Ground level in Mangalore, atop Planet SKS, the tallest residential structure of Karnataka. The moment was all the more memorable for Architect Sanath Kumar Shetty and his SKS family for the reason that the flag was unfurled by his mother Smt. Vimala Somesh Shetty and her brother Mr. Aikalabawa Seetaram Shetty, who has celebrated his 100th birthday this year. Mr. Seetaram Shetty, a philanthropist and a freedom fighter who has seen the British rule in India, the freedom fight and struggles from a very close range and also the independent India through its struggle in its march towards the development for last 68 years. His family was one among the very few families of Dakshina Kannada who actively participated and sacrificed life in the freedom struggle.

The ceremony was low profile in nature attended only by close family members, employees of Larsen & Toubro construction. The motive behind the act as Mr. Sanath Kumar Shetty put it in his social net work page was “an endeavor to elevate the patriotism in every Indian to a higher level.”
