 Illegally transportation of sand: DC takes action against 15 lorries, inspects two-way traffic at Bantwal

Bantwal, July 10: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim on Wednesday, July 9 took sharp action against more than fifteen lorries that were illegally transporting the sand.

The DC was on his way to Neriya of Beltangady taluk from Mangalore, but he got stuck in traffic at BC Road due to ongoing drainage work in the area. In the meantime, he spotted sand-laden lorries among the vehicles lined up in the gridlock and with the assistance of district superintendent of police Dr. Sharanappa and other police officials, stopped the lorries and verified their documents.

All the lorries were seized by tahsildar Malleswamy by the order of DC. The officials later verified the permits issued by the department of mines and geology and take further legal action.

Later the deputy commissioner also inspected the two-way traffic charted out by himself and the SP. He got the divider and stones laid across the road removed near the entrance to BC Road from Mangalore.

Sources said, even thought the DC was made known about the inconvenience and acute traffic congestion due to two-way traffic, he said that the two-way traffic be continued.
