Uppinangady, July 03: A tanker carrying liquid petroleum gas (LPG) overturned in the early hours of Thursday, July 3 on the National Highway at Bedrodi in Puttur Taluk.
The tanker was on its way from Mangalore to Bangalore and overturned when the driver lost control. On seeing the leakage of gas from the tanker, Maruthi the driver and the cleaner immediately fled from the cabin and informed nearby residents to leave in view of the possibility of an explosion.
The road traffic on the National Highway was diverted following the incident. Vehicles will now pass through Subramanya, Nelyadi and Bisile Ghat road.
The technical experts will start transferring gas into another tanker and the operation may last till evening, sources said.
