Notorious Cattle Thieves Arested by Bajpe Police

Mangalore : In a brisk action by the police team, three notorious cattle thieves were nabbed on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

The accused are identified as Umar Farooq (28) of Madyadka, M.D Ashraf alias Badavara Bandhu (25) and Nissar (25) both hailing from Jokatte.

The accused are said to have involved in the major cattle theft cases in and around Karkala, Venur, Udupi, Belthangady, Bantwal, Sullia, Hosangadi, Bajpe and had spread their network to the neighboring state Kerala too.

The accused had stolen four cows belonging to Bhaskar Shetty, youth Congress leader of Kattemar, Kuppepadavu on June 17 night. Irate locals had blocked the road demanding justice on June 18.

Farooq was arrested on Tuesday, July 1 evening meanwhile Ashraf and Nissar were nabbed in the wee hours of Wednesday, July 2. As per the police five other accused are still absconding.

Sources claim that the accused were involved in the cattle theft business since two years. Police also seized two Alto vehicles from the accused. So far seven theft cases have been filed against the accused in the various police stations, including three in Bajpe police station.

Ravikumar, ACP, Panambur Police Station and Narsimhamurthy, inspector, Bajpe Police Station led the operation. H.M Poovappa, sub inspector, Suresh, Rajesh, Lokesh, Prakash Moorthy, head constables, Jayananda, Shashidara, Abu Sali and Yogesh, constables were part of the operation.
