Mangalore, June 05, 2014: The Yethinahole Yojane Virodhi Horata Samithi (YYVHS) organized “Bella Baajal”, at Hampankatta Circle to mark World Environment Day on June 5. The group distributed Jaggery (Bella) and water to the gathering and traditional Aati Kalenja songs were sung during the launch of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shrisha Kumar, lecturer of Vivekananda College Puttur, said that,”Govt. is looting the people by Netravathi river diversion project and so on. It is giving false information and cheating the people in the name of Yethinahole diversion project. If we do not raise our voices against the Yethinahole project we will not be able to stop the project and in future days water won’t be available to us.”
He urged the people to join hands and fight against the political forces to stop the Yethinahole project from coming up. If this project proceeds the people will face no end of suffering and disturbances in the near future, he said.
“In 21 years control of Malaria has failed, DK is number one in malaria in the state and soon will be number one in the country. The reason is people are not coming out and complaining. If the administration has to succeed in preventing Malaria, people should come out and inform the Health department. We need to fight against the Yethinahole project from coming up. Many environmentalists are fighting against this project. He urged the people to join hands with the YYVHS members and save Nethravati River from being diverted to other states,” said Member of the YYVHS Suresh Shetty.
Other members and supporters were present on the occasion.
