Mangalore, May 22: The road has been dug up near Thokkottu junction for laying a drain as part of the highway work. This caused traffic jam at Thokkottu junction on national highway 66 on Thursday May 22 as. Commuters were stuck for hours together as traffic moved at a snail’s pace.
Adding to this, a city bus, in a bid to avoid the traffic jam, rammed into a shop while trying to steer through a narrow one-way road. As a consequence, passengers in the bus were injured, and other vehicles too got stuck in the narrow road. The bus driver who was responsible for the incident managed to escape from the spot.
The road was dug up for the purpose of construction of drain and then filled with mud on Wednesday May 21 night,. But when it started to rain, as the vehicles passed on the mud, another pit got formed and as a result, traffic jam was formed. In the early hours the traffic was extended up to two kilometers.
Ullal police and home guards after much effort managed to clear the traffic by afternoon.
