Periyapatna accident: Deralakatte grieves over death of its populace

Mangalore, May 15: The whole of Derlakatte area was filled with sorrow after the news of a horrifying accident at Periyapatna which took away the lives of its nine residents and injured 11, on Wednesday May 14.

The accident occurred at Kamplapura near Periyapatna after a truck laden with LPG cylinders that was being driven recklessly rammed into the Tempo Traveler vehicle in which the victims were travelling. Twenty-one members from two families of P H Mohammed, and his friend, Ameeruddin, and some of their relatives and friends had together undertaken pilgrimage to certain prayer centres in Tamil Nadu.

The condition of the injured, Zeenath, wife of Mohammed, her sister-in-law, Bushra, Bushra’s daughter, Safa, Zeenath’s elder sister, Razia, and her children, Hafeez and Ifaaz, is stated to be serious.

State minister, Khadar, and former zilla panchayat member, Shahul Hameed, contacted local authorities at Periyapatna and arranged for all possible help to the distressed pilgrims. Former union minister, Janardhana Poojary, also met the bereaved families and offered condolences.

Hundreds of relatives and sympathizers had gathered at the funeral spots to offer prayers for the departed souls.
