Check on spread of vector-borne diseases: Health Minister’s order to officials

Mangalore, May 11: UT Khader, State Health and Family Welfare Minister has directed the officials to take preventive measures to fight vector-borne diseases like Malaria and Dengue in Mangalore.

On Saturday May 10, the minister was addressing a review meeting on malaria control programme which was held in the city. The meet was also convened to review the health campaign in the MCC limits.

The Minister urged the Health Department and Mangalore City Corporation to put in concerted efforts to prevent the spread of the diseases. He also stressed the need to maintain cleanliness at the various construction sites in the city. The MCC was directed to take up the task of cleaning water tanks in the city.

Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo pointed out the cleanliness problems at various market places in the city. He also drew the attention of the authorities towards the lack of facilities like a public toilet in Jeppu market which makes matters worse.

Area of Suratkal lacks a proper system of drainage and this would be a major cause for the spread of disease, informed BA Moidin Bava, MLA of Mangalore North.

Kavitha, Deputy Mayor, Shashidhar Hegde, corporator and former mayor and other officials were present.
