Kundapur, May 7: Former Kundapur MLA Vinny Fred Fernandes had done her best for the opening of the women’s police station at Kundapur 10 years back, but noe the Kundapur Women’s police station is going to transfer to Udupi.
The police station is operating at Vinny Fernandes’s own building since its opening. Many women’s associations including Vinny Fernandes have opposed the transfer of this police station from Kundapur to Udupi.
Vinny F.Fernandes had put up a demand in front of the then state Home Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge who had sanctioned a women’s police station considering the problems of women in Kundapur taluk. Initially, the women’s police station started operating from Men’s police station at Kundapur. Later it was transferred to an independent building at LIC road.
A huge number of women’s cases were settled through counseling by the women police officers in this station. It was very famous and highly regarded in Kundapur taluk as the women police officers are helpful in settling the disputes which otherwise would have to go the court.
The recent decision of transferring the police station has created confusion among the women of Kundapur taluk. A petition has been submitted to Kundapur MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty, MP Jayaprakash Hegde, Minister Vinaykumar Sorake, Home Minister and the state Chief Minister for the cancellation of transfer order.
