City Corporators get furious over Solid waste disposal contract

Mangalore, May 8: Mangalore City Corporation on May 7 Wednesday convened a special session at MCC auditorium to discuss the issue of solid waste disposal contract, which has been given to the private company.

During the session, several corporators took a strong exception and opposed, since they were kept in dark related to the issue.

The corporators complained they were unaware that the solid waste disposal contract was being given to Antony Waste Handling Cell Private Ltd(AWHCPL) of Mumbai and although it was discussed from past five years, they were not informed about it.

The state government has already agreed to hand over of the contract to the Mumbai based company.

Mayor Mahabala Maarla, had tried hard to cool the raged corporators and assured to inform the details the further developments regarding the issue on time.

The corporators including Deepak Poojari, DK Ashok and Ashok Poojary also questioned the Mayor, whether the contract given to the private company will solve the existing problem.

The representative of the Mumbai based company, who was present at the meeting, said that the company has been handling same kind of works from three decades. Mangalore city will be the first city in the state to work under them and they would further divide the city into two parts like North and South to handle the disposal work. He also said that the machines would sweep 25 km stretch of the road.

MCC Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde, Deputy Mayor Kavitha Vasu, Joint Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak and others were present.
