Bantwala, April 21: “Police wear khaki dress to project us as the guardians of law and order. But now it seems, under pressure from Government they are giving cover to few people dodging from crime, they are forgetting their duty. Is this right?” asked MLA Ganesh Karthik.
Speaking at the protest rally organized by BJP on Monday morning in BC Road, in front of the Bantwala police station, he said, “After the Congress has started its governance, the law is not being followed, they are trying to impress one particular community, the persons responsible for the attack should be arrested.”
MLC Monappa Bhandary speaking at the rally said, “Congress has patronized corruption, rowdies and antisocial persons are freely moving out with ministers and prominent Congress party workers.”
More police personnel were summoned as the time went on and the gathering got restless. At this point the BJP wanted Mr. Rajshekar Maistry, the inspector to come and talk to the gathering. The inspector agreed and as he came to the dais the protesters came and embraced him. There was a verbal duel with the BJP protesters on one side and the Circle Inspector on the other. Then ignoring the protesters he went into the police station.
On the same afternoon at 12 noon the Additional Superintendent of Police T.P. Shivakumar came to the Bantwala Police Station and had a talk with the protesters.
Promise of immediate arrest
Mr. T.P. Shivakumar accepting a request from the protesters promised an immediate arrest of Hussainar, the prime accused. He has a number of cases against him and a court warrant is also ready for his arrest. He promised not to give protection to Hussainar and his group. The protesters giving a deadline as Monday evening and there would be a continued protest till the end. Replying to this Additional SP Shivakumar said “we will do our duty but we want cooperation from you people. None of you should take the law into your hands”
The MLA from Sulia Angara, prominent party workers Rajesh Nayak, Purush Salian, Ramdas Bantwala, Dinesh Bhandary, Jitendra Kottary, G. Anand, Ronald D’souza, Tungappa Bangera, Chinappa Kotian, Shashidar Brahmarakootlu, Anand Shambooru, Krishnappa Poojary, Rajaram Nayak, and Praveen Thumbe spoke on the rally.
The Zilla Panchayat member Santhosh Kumar Rai, Pushparaj Shetty, Charan Jumadi Gudde, Ravindra Kambali, Sadanand Malli, Devappa Poojary, Bharath BC Road, Govind Prabhu, Manoj Acharya, Anand Kulal and others were seated.
